regatta1It was the annual Regatta this weekend and the weather played nicely for us, nice sunny day with a fresh breeze.

Very lucky as the day after was a real pea souper, with heavy mist and no wind to speak of.

The Regatta is organised by the local sailing club with proceeds from the various stalls going to the RNLI.

As I walked round the harbour looking at the assembled yachts that visit for the event, it is clear there is some money about, somewhere. This year there were even two quite large cruisers.

regatta2Of course there were also lots and lots of little dinghies and skiffs, as that is what the races are all about.

There were some pipers to provide entertainment for the "crowds". I say crowds in inverted commas because although busy by Westray standards there is of course never the sort of numbers that you would see at a similar mainland event. Which, for me, is nice.

Good, fun day, with a dance in the evening.
