The Orkney Islands are off the north coast of Scotland and are accessible by plane or ferry.

There are over 70 islands that make up the Orkneys but only 17 of these are publicly inhabited.

Mainland as the largest of the islands is called has a population of over 15,000 and is the focal point of islands activity and business.

Orkney has a very well developed and run transport infrastructure to provide communications between the various islands and Mainland. Inter island transport being either via Orkney Ferries or Loganair.
