Well the new Tesco opened in Kirkwall yesterday, so we went over to give it a quick coat of looking at. Of course it was packed as it was always going to be on the opening day, but there was still room to get around, with the odd exception where people had stopped to chat (why do people do that in busy stores As we went into the shop there was an assistant there handing out free canvas carrier bags by the handful, I'm sure these will come in handy in the future. So what about the shop? Well it was Tesco, like any other, prices are generally good, product quality good etc. In the context of Orkney, the range of products is much greater than anything we've had previously, it was nice to see local produce in store and I'm sure that the Tesco prices will be welcome. There were lots of staff all willing to help even if they were a bit unsure of where everything was. Couple of gripes: there was special offer on wine which ended on the 6th of July, in a shop that opened on the 7th! and 5p off petrol coupons at the checkout with no petrol station. Given the price of fuel here and the hope that Tesco might sell petrol, this could be seen as taking the mick! A final plus was... plain glazed ring doughnuts! yum yum |
