Today has been a right bonny day, lots of sunshine and the temperature around 6 dec C according to my little thermometer. I was out and about feeding the waifs and strays, cats and kittens. That is one thing Orkney has in great numbers, lots of stray cats. But to be fair the Cats Protection League are doing a grand job of rounding them up and getting them spayed and neutered. Anyway back to feeding time, I had just come in and was watching out of the window to see who turned up for grub, when I noticed something white coming up the drive. When it came into full view it was huge white goose, don't know if it was a snow goose I'm not really upto spec with my birds. He or she was very nice anyway, it stayed for about an hour, when hubby came in I pointed it out and he said maybe it has come for xmas, goosey was off then and I haven't seen it since! |

A rather cold and overcast day today in Westray, the sort of day I love. It means you don't have to feel guilty about staying in and doing inside jobs. So I've put up the xmas tree. It was acutally very easy this year, I had forgotten that I had packed it away last year with the decorations still in place. Nelson was just a kitten last xmas, and he made it his job to keep the tree free from decorations. After replacing baubles several times a day we came up with a solution, we tie wrapped all the baubles on so when the time came to take it down we just packed it away baubles still on, oh happy memories of a much missed companion (see Horrid Week). I've just added some chocalate baubles to it, mmm' me thinks I will have to place them slighty higher as Spot (small dog) is showing a little too much interest in them! |

I really wish I was better at this. I want to keep this Blog as current as I can but just don't seem to remember or have the time or have anything to say....
The entry about the bad weather weekend was added very much after the event and I will try and put in some more stuff, after the event as I do have things to add.
Just got to go out for a bit now.

Well what an unbelievably horrid week!
 We lost one of our cats to Feline Aids this week. I wouldn't normally share this in this manner, but it does relate to island living so is perhaps worth doing so.
On Monday we took one of our cats, Nelson, to the vets as he had not been well for a little while. He had one or too sores that one might normally associate with a bad flea infestation, but definitely no fleas they wouldn't dare!
As is our norm (whenever we take any of the pets to the vets) we left Nelson with the vets as they kindly keep them all day making it easier to get round the shops etc and make best use of the day on Mainland (Orkney). We then pick the pet up on the way to the ferry.
When we went to pick Nelson up the vet said that they had been trying to ring our mobile all day.

Pah! That's what insurance is for!!!
You might guess from the above and the title that all did not go as smoothly with my insurers as suggested.
I mentioned in my entry about "the weekend" that shortly after speaking to my insurers that the phones went down, so obviously they couldn't "ring me back within 24 hours" to discuss a replacement. So on Monday I made what I thought was a courtesy call to discuss my claim.
My insurers, dammit lets name names Direct Line, said that according to their records there had not been any adverse weather in my area over the weekend! I was stunned!
Adverse weather, it had been spectacular, it had been on the BBC news, it was the talk of the neighbourhood!!!
"Well our records don't show that" What can one say!
